When muscles are tight and stiff, it just seems like you should stretch them, right? In my experience, no. Stretching never really seems to relieve the tightness, and it often increases rather than decreases sensitivity. I also am not a fan of neck circles. This movement can be very sensitizing, especially if you have arthritis in your cervical spine. So what should you do instead? Try sternum circles. Try to keep your neck as soft and relaxed as possible once you have the movement down. Practice for just 30 seconds or so many times throughout the day. You will be training your tissues and your nervous systems to calm down and also to work together more efficiently.
