Pranayama: Extended Exhale
Your New Reset Button
This practice is very short and easily transferrable to your everyday life. Once you have watched the video a few times, you will have it. Use the extended exhale any time
the tension begins to build,
anytime you feel your heart beating faster for what seems like no reason,
any time you feel stressed or overwhelmed.
Extending the exhale slows the heart rate, increases heart rate variability and increases parasympathetic nervous system activity. All of these things mean a calmer you and a calmer neck.
If I may… I’d like to offer one more nugget for your practice. When you feel the tension and stress beginning to spiral, don’t fight it. Don’t try to stop it or change it. Try instead to observe it with a sense of curiosity. This has worked for a great many of my clients and it may just give you some insight as well.
